Part 1: Course Description:

Obtaining ICC (International Code Council) certifications is highly valuable for both municipal building inspectors and building contractors. Overall, ICC certifications provide credibility, ensure adherence to regulations, and create better career opportunities while improving the safety and quality of construction projects.

This course will discuss the process for taking the ICC exams as well as how to prepare for them.

About the Instructor:

Mike has worked for the City of Keene, New Hampshire, for over 24 Years, Currently Plans Examiner, Floodplain Manager, Assistant Emergency Management Director.

His technical expertise is supported by 31 certifications from the International Code Council (ICC), including Master Code Professional, 3 certifications from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and certification as a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) through the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM). He’s also attended the National Disaster & Emergency Management University, better known as the Emergency Management Institute.

Part 2: Course Description:

This presentation will provide a brief introduction to Asbestos, review its health effects, and dive into an overview of asbestos regulations and requirements for renovation and demolition projects in New Hampshire. The presentation is designed to make Building Officials and Customers aware of regulatory requirements to help deter potential violations before they occur. Time will be provided for a question-and-answer segment with the audience at the end of the presentation.

About the Instructor:

Andrew Pomeroy is the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services’

Asbestos Waste Specialist. As the Asbestos Waste Specialist, Andrew conducts

regulatory compliance site inspections for active asbestos abatement sites, provides

outreach to asbestos industry stakeholders, and conducts complaint investigations.

Andrew earned a Civil Engineering degree from Norwich University (Northfield, VT), and

became certified, during various stages of his career, as an asbestos inspector and

monitor in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Ohio,

and North Carolina. In his past life as a private consultant, Andrew conducted oversight

on some of the most large-scale and complex asbestos and hazardous materials

abatement projects in New England. In his current life of public service, Andrew works

closely with the department’s Public Information Office to provide outreach

presentations and videos for Customers to ensure regulatory awareness and

compliance.

Part 3: Course Description:

This presentation will provide a brief introduction to radon, review its health effects, regulatory framework, current initiatives and collaboration opportunities for the program. The presentation information is designed to make building officials aware of resources for testing and mitigating radon and how they might partner with the program to increase facility manager, homeowner and renter awareness of environmental hazards. Highlights from a data brief in development will be shared and the talk will further describe benefits of radon reducing new construction (RRNC) that go beyond radon mitigation. There will also be a brief discussion time afterward to learn more about how the program can better serve building officials.

About the Instructor:

Mary Butow is the Radon Program Manager with the NH Department of Health and Human Services (NH DHHS). In her current role, she oversees implementation of NH's State and Tribal Indoor Radon Grants (SIRG) program grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including responding to community concerns and promoting testing and mitigation of radon. Most recently she was a Human Health Risk Assessor with the NH Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) Environmental Health Program. In her role at NHDES, she formulated health-based standards for chemicals in drinking water, and examined technical literature, environmental sampling data and reports to identify chemical contaminants which may pose a risk to human health.
